Halong Bay and its secrets

Halong Bay is one of the places that fascinates travellers the most and where everyone wants to go. We encourage every traveller to visit this part of Vietnam.

First of all, what is Halong Bay? It is simply an enormous body of water with nearly 2000 islands located in Quang Ninh province, and is a UNESCO World Heritage.

“Ha Long” means “descent of the dragon” because the legend says that this particular form is due to a dragon. The dragon is a sacred animal in Vietnam. Legend has it that a dragon family was sent by the Gods to protect its inhabitants from the invaders. In place of the fire, they spat jewels and jades that would later turn into islands. Following this event, the dragons decided to live in the bay.

From a historical point of view, Halong Bay has been the scene of many naval battles and has been home to many pirates. Halong Bay has been inhabited for more than 4000 years. You will meet fishermen and inhabitants living in floating houses.

What you can do on Halong Bay

One of the main activities of Halong Bay is undoubtedly visiting the caves and cellars. However, many other activities are offered such as kayaking and visiting floating villages. You can spend the night aboard a traditional junk, do tai chi, learn to cook or just enjoy the sunset on the top deck of your junk.

When to visit Halong Bay?

The ideal period to visit Vietnam is March, April, September and October. But do not worry, each time of the year will offer you a different sight of Halong Bay. For a dry experience, go in the months of November to February. For a little more heat, leave between May and August.

Dedicate at least two days to this part of Vietnam which is full of stories and wonderful landscapes. Enjoy an overnight cruise on Halong Bay during your stay because it is said that in a few years only day cruises will be allowed.

Halong Bay offers visitors a once-in-a-lifetime-experience. You will not find this atmosphere anywhere else in Vietnam.
